Traffic accident kills two in Lahore

A traffic collision on Wednesday left two people dead in Lahore, according to a private news channel.
According to police, two motorcycle riders travelling to Raiwind crashed in to a tractor parked at the roadside at Arain Chowk and were severely injured.
Eye witnesses were quoted saying the two men were critically wounded and succumbed to their injuries before the arrival of an ambulance.

The tractor has been taken in to custody by the police.

Pakistanis to mark shortest day tomorrow

December 22 is the winter solstice, the shortest day, of the year for Pakistan and other Asian countries.
According to the Meteorological Department, December 22 would be recorded the shortest day with 11 hours and 20 minutes of daylight and 12 hours and 40 minutes of night. It is a time when the sun reaches its farthest point from the celestial equator.
As the first day of the astronomical winter in the Northern Hemisphere, the solstice marks the time at which the sun shines directly overhead at 23.5 degrees south latitude. With the North Pole tilted away from the sun, locations north of the equator see the sun take its lowest and shortest path across the southern sky.
The department also said that the duration of daylight would be increasing gradually from December 23.

Minorities enjoy equal rights in Pakistan, says Nawaz

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif rebuffed all the ground realties and said that the minority groups are enjoying equal rights in Pakistan.
He said that some misguided people are creating a chaos in the country at the pretext of religion.
Addressing a ceremony held to celebrate the Christmas, PM said that the minorities have rendered laudable services for the country’s prosperity and defense.
He commended the role and services of minority communities in Pakistan Army, bureaucracy, judiciary and parliament.
The prime minister said misleading people do not attach any importance to the mosque, temple or church.
He maintained that his government would not allow anyone to destroy Pakistan’s identity through his nefarious designs.
The government stands by the oppressed and the victims of Joseph Colony were given Rs500, 000 each.

Irregular gas supply troubles consumers

The domestic consumers in Lahore were bothered with the low pressure of gas available for cookery and heating on Saturday.
The consumers were reportedly seen complaining about the inconvenience caused in almost all localities of the city.
Several residents said they used liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) as an alternative but it was not affordable.
The citizens urged the authorities concerned to take steps for regularising the gas supply during the winter season.

Drone protests discourage foreign investment

Planning and Development Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal on Friday said that the people 

who are staging protests against the drone strikes are actually deterring foreign investments in the country.
Addressing a session of the Pakistan Engineering Congress on Friday, Ahsan Iqbal said that the drone protesters are not serving the nation. He further said that the nation does not support any sit-ins and political protests.
Further speaking, the federal minister stated that Imran Khan received the mandate for bringing peace in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province.
He urged the political parties of Pakistan to stand with the federal government in solving national issues by rejecting the protest ways.
Ahsan Iqbal, while talking on the Kalabagh Dam, said that the issue is debatable on which not a single political party has reached on a consensus. He claimed that they do not want the country to be divided just for the revenue earned by the dam.
