Sheesha Culture: A threat to pakistan


  
       Around 300 Sheesha cafes operating in city

The draft of a law against Sheesha cafes has been finalised to be presented for legislation soon with the aim to ensure strict control on drugs use and Sheesha smoking in Punjab.
“Tobacco Control Ordinance-2002 has failed to control drug addiction effectively as around 300 Sheesha cafes are still operating in the city only”, regretted Consultant, Anti Drugs/Narcotics Campaign,Syed Zulfiqar Hussain during his lecture on “New trend of Sheesha Cafes & Drug Addiction” here.
The lecture was organised by Ravian Forensic Society,Department of Chemistry, Government College University, Lahore in collaboration with Drug Advisory Training of Youth Council for Anti Narcotics .
S. Zulfiqar said that the posh downtown area of Gulberg is the hub of health threatening ‘Sheesha cafes’.
Dean of Chemistry, GC University Dr Islamullah Khan said that in recent years the youth has developed a novel way to spend their leisure time i.e by smoking flavored/coloured Sheesha which is highly injurious to health.
“A typical one hour long ‘hookah’ smoking session involves 200 puffs while an average cigarette contains 20 puffs”, he explained.
Associate Professor Dr Muhammad Zahid,President of Ravian Forensic Society Ms. Shaista,and a number of students were present on the occasion.
