CM opens land record centre at cantonment

CHIEF Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the historic project of computerization of land record will be completed by June 2014 in 140 tehsils and this modern system will be fully functional in all districts of the province.
He was addressing an inaugural ceremony of Land Record Centre at Lahore Cantonment on Sunday. The chief minister said the project would enable the citizens to obtain proprietary deed of their land as well as facilitate them in the matters regarding transfer of land, which would be a big change. He said the project would eliminate Tehsildar and Patwari culture; the government was not against the Patwaris and Tehsildars but there was a need to change their mentality, which had been a source of problems for the people for centuries, he added. He said that despite summaries of the government officers, he had not recruited even a single Patwari during the last six years and had appointed honest and talented persons through Punjab Public Service Commission at the service centres and adopted an effective checks and balances system for this purpose.
He said promotion of trade and economic activities was essential for the elimination of poverty, unemployment and terrorism; he was fully determined to rid the country of energy crisis; agreements were being signed with foreign energy companies and investors for this purpose and he was confident the efforts would be successful and energy crisis would be overcome. Addressing the media men he said executive and press go hand in hand and the government took guidance from analysis and comments of the journalists; journalist community would have to play a key role in steering the nation out of despondency. He said politicians, generals, judges, journalists and all segments of the society would have to make collective effort to take the country out of problems. He said that journalist community raised its voice against price-hike due to which an effective system was evolved by the government for the provision of essential items to the people at the fixed rates and such measures were taken which resulted in considerable decrease in the prices of essential commodities. He said it was the responsibility of the journalist community to promote awareness among the people about the modern system of land record not only in the country but also among the overseas Pakistanis.
Earlier, the Chief Minister inaugurated the Land Record Centre, Lahore Cantt. Planning & Development Chairman and Project Director Irfan Elahi said with the completion of this project, proprietary deed would be available in 30 minutes, while the process of mutation would be completed in only 45 minutes.
Corruption: Shahbaz Sharif has said that corruption is the biggest hurdle in the process of development and collective efforts are needed to root out this menace. In his message on World Anti-Corruption Day, the chief minister said transparency and elimination of corruption was the hallmark of the Punjab government and an example of good governance had been set by promoting transparency in the province. He added that impartial world institutions had also appreciated the efforts of the Punjab government for eradication of corruption and irregularities from the society.
