LHC stops censor board from certifying Indian films
Federal Film Censor Board has been ordered to stop certifying Indian films by the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday, according to a private news channel.
The bench was headed by Justice Khalid Mehmood for hearing the case filed against the exhibition of Indian films in national cinema.
According to the petitioners, Pakistani film industry is collapsing, rendering thousands unemployed due to the exhibition of Indian films in the cinema. They added that according to the law, Indian films cannot be exhibited in Pakistan but certain elements are importing these films from Europe and Gulf state and the censor boards allows their exhibition without inspection of the documents.
The court ordered the censor board to stop certifying Indian films until further notice and issued orders for the Federal Government and the parties in the case to file their replies.
CM urges people to unite against conspirers

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday said that the nation must stand united like a brick wall in order to foil the conspiracies by the enemies of Pakistan.
While reviewing the law and order situation in a meeting on Friday, the CM instructed the officials to utilise each resource to ensure the protection of the lives and property of the people.
Discussing the security situation for Chehlum of Imam Hussain (RA), the CM instructed the police and law enforcement agencies (LEAs) to keep a close eye on the extremists as well as to strengthen the security arrangements through cctv cameras and walk-through scanners and gates. He added that unbiased action should be taken against people giving hate speeches and to implement the law of banning loudspeakers in every sense.
Home secretary and inspector general of Police briefed the CM about the overall security situation.

Film festival from today....

Rafi Peer Theatre Workshop’s third International Film Festival
of 2013 will be held from Dec 19 to 21 at Alhamra Arts Council, The
Mall, at 1pm to 7pm, showcasing 64 feature, documentary, children’s,
animated and short films.Entrance to halls is through free passes
available at the Rafi Peer Cultural Center and at the venue of the
festival.
Addressing a press conference at the Lahore Press Club, Usman
Peerzada, Sadaan Peerzada and Tasneem Pirzada said the films had been
selected from 250 films of 35 countries. These films encompassed various
aspects of human life and allow the viewers a glimpse into different
cultures, thoughts, socio-political realities and activities of people
of the world.
These brilliant works by young and renowned film directors and their
teams provide a closer look at the advances made in the contemporary
cinema.
The films to be screened are from Pakistan, Iran, Spain, Denmark, Australia, France, Germany, Norway, India, UAE and Russia.

LHC concerned over law, order situation
18th Dec 2013, Lahore The Lahore High Court expressed serious concern over failing law and order situation in Punjab and apathy of the rulers on Tuesday.
The court observed that the poor were being murdered while son of the chief minister and ministers visiting sasta bazaars on helicopter and motorcade of 70 vehicles respectively.
The court was hearing a petition of a woman, who wants her property recovered from the illegal possession of land grabbers. SSP Operations Rana Abdul Jabbar was present in the court.
Petitioner Salima Bibi alleged that a political party was patronising the land grabbers and police had been acting as silent spectator.
The court asked the officer as to why police officials were obeying illegal directions of the rulers. “Who is responsible for the bad law and order situation in the province?” the court posed another query.
The SSP stated that delay in implementation of death sentences was a major reason behind increasing crime.
The court adjourned the hearing until Jan 17 and directed the police to produce record of the petitioner’s case.
The Lahore High Court on Tuesday summoned Vice Chancellor of University of Health Sciences in response of writ petition for not releasing examination schedule for MBBS students of a private medical college.
Justice Muhamamd Khalid Mahmood Khan directed the vice chancellor to appear in person today (Wednesday).
The petitioner students through their counsel informed the court that their college was affiliated with the UHS, but despite that the university administration was not issuing the examination schedule for them.
The lawyer argued that the educational career of these students would disturb if the schedule is not issued.
The requested the court to issue directions to the UHS administration to release schedule for the students of their medical college.
